The San Fernando Valley is regularly 15 to 20 degrees hotter than the coast in summer, and the West Valley is often the hottest part. Moving through a 100-degree afternoon is slower, harder and riskier. A little planning makes a big difference.
Book the first slot
From June through September, book the earliest start you can. Most of the heavy lifting gets done before the hottest hours, and the crew works at a better pace.
Protect heat-sensitive items
- Candles, vinyl records, photos and some electronics can warp or melt in a hot truck. Pack them separately and carry them in your car.
- Don't leave medications, wine or plants in a closed truck for hours.
- Leather and wood furniture should be wrapped in breathable moving blankets rather than only plastic.
Get the new place ready
Turn on the air conditioning at the new home before the truck arrives if you can. A cool house lets the crew unload faster and keeps fragile items safe while they're unpacked.
Keep the doors efficient
Leaving the front door open for hours lets the heat in. A clear path from the truck to each room keeps the door open for less time and keeps the move moving.
Water and breaks
Our crews keep water on the truck and rotate the long carries. Short breaks on hot days aren't wasted time; they keep the pace steady through the afternoon.
